The Albino Ancistrus is a pale, selectively bred form of the bristlenose catfish, with a creamy white to yellowish body and striking red or pink eyes. Its flattened shape, armour-like plates and sucker-shaped mouth give it the distinctive appearance associated with Ancistrus catfish, while mature males develop branching bristles across the snout and head.This fish is generally peaceful and spends much of its time attached to surfaces or exploring the lower parts of its environment. It is most active around dusk and during the night, using its sucker mouth to rasp at surfaces and search for edible material. Although usually calm, males may defend small shelter sites from one another.Ancistrus cirrhosus originates in freshwater habitats of South America, where it occurs in rivers, streams and flooded environments with submerged wood, rocks and plant growth. Its flattened body and strong mouth are well suited to life in flowing water, and its ability to cling to surfaces helps it resist currents.The albino appearance is a cultivated colour variety rather than a separate wild species. Like other bristlenose catfish, it is notable for its parental behaviour: after spawning in a cavity, the male guards and fans the eggs until they hatch, making this group especially interesting to observe in aquaria.
