Albino Tiger Oscar Care Guide

The Albino Tiger Oscar is a striking cultivated color form of Astronotus ocellatus, commonly called the Oscar. Its pale cream, yellow or pinkish body is marked with irregular orange to red tiger-like patches, while the eyes are often pink or red because of reduced pigmentation. Like other Oscars, it has a deep-bodied, powerful appearance and a distinctive ocellus near the base of the tail.Oscars are intelligent, expressive cichlids with bold personalities. They are inquisitive fish that often investigate objects and movement beyond the aquarium, and individuals can become highly responsive to familiar people. Despite this engaging behaviour, they are territorial predators and may show aggression toward smaller fish or rivals.In the wild, Astronotus ocellatus inhabits slow-moving rivers, floodplain lakes, tributaries and forested waterways across the Amazon, Orinoco and Guiana Shield regions of South America. These habitats can contain submerged roots, branches, leaf litter and seasonally variable water conditions, providing cover and ambush locations for a large predatory cichlid.The species was described by Louis Agassiz in 1831 and has become one of the most popular large aquarium cichlids.
