Apistogramma panduro Care Guide

Apistogramma panduro is a small, striking dwarf cichlid known for its powder-blue body, dark facial markings and attractive yellow colouration in females. Males are generally larger and more elongated, with extended fin rays and stronger contrast in their patterning, while females can become especially vivid when breeding.This species has a confident but measured personality for a dwarf cichlid. It spends much of its time close to the bottom, inspecting the substrate, leaf litter and small hiding places, and males may display to rivals or defend a temporary territory. Its behaviour is often most interesting when a pair forms and the female begins guarding a brood.Apistogramma panduro originates from the upper Amazon region of Peru, particularly slow-moving forest streams and tributaries associated with the Río Ucayali drainage. These waters are typically shaded by dense vegetation, lined with submerged roots and leaf litter, and naturally soft and acidic.Like many Apistogramma, it is a cave-spawning species in which the female takes the leading role in caring for eggs and young. The species belongs to a diverse South American genus whose members are valued for combining elaborate cichlid behaviour with a compact size and remarkable colour diversity.
