Asian Rummynose Care Guide

The Asian Rummynose is a small, striking cyprinid with a silvery body, a vivid red face and bright red markings on the fins. Mature males are especially colourful, with contrasting blue-black patches that make them highly attractive despite their modest size. Females tend to be less intensely marked and more robust in shape.This species is a peaceful, active shoaling fish that spends much of its time in the middle levels of the water column. Males may display to one another and to females, showing off their colours and fins without usually causing serious injury. Its social nature is an important part of its character.Sawbwa resplendens is endemic to Lake Inle and nearby waters in Myanmar, where it occurs in shallow, relatively clear habitats among aquatic vegetation and marginal plants. Lake Inle is a high-altitude freshwater system with distinctive floating gardens, reed beds and traditional fishing communities.The species belongs to the carp family Cyprinidae and is not a true tetra, despite occasional trade names that compare it with the better-known Rummynose Tetras. Its restricted natural distribution makes it an important example of the specialised fish diversity found in the Inle basin.In the aquarium trade, the Asian Rummynose is valued for its compact size, peaceful behaviour and dramatic colour contrast.
