Balloon Albino Tiger Barb Care Guide

The Balloon Albino Tiger Barb is a selectively bred colour and body-form variety of the familiar Tiger Barb, Puntigrus tetrazona. Its shortened, rounded body gives it a distinctive balloon-like silhouette, while its albino coloration ranges from creamy white to pale gold with pinkish or reddish eyes. The usual dark tiger-like markings may be faint, broken or replaced by soft grey, tan or orange shading.This is an energetic, alert fish with a lively presence in the aquarium. Tiger Barbs are best known for their constant activity and social interactions, including chasing, sparring and displaying within their group. Although not usually dangerous to similarly robust companions, they can be assertive and may harass timid or slow-moving fish.In nature, Puntigrus tetrazona is associated with freshwater habitats in Southeast Asia, especially the waters of Sumatra and Borneo. It occurs in streams, forest waterways and other environments where submerged vegetation, fallen leaves and variable currents provide shelter and feeding opportunities.The species was historically widely sold under the name Barbus tetrazona and remains one of the most recognisable aquarium barbs. The balloon and albino traits are produced through selective breeding, making this form visually unusual while retaining much of the active social behaviour that characterises the standard Tiger Barb.
