Black Helmet Snail Care Guide

The Black Helmet Snail, Neritina pulligera, has a broad, rounded shell that is usually deep black, charcoal or dark brown, often with a smooth, glossy finish. Its sturdy shell and low, helmet-like profile give it a distinctive appearance among freshwater aquarium snails, while the soft body and muscular foot remain mostly hidden beneath the shell as it moves.This species is a peaceful grazer that spends much of its time exploring hard surfaces and rasping away at algae, diatoms and microbial films. It is generally active during both day and night, although individual snails may retreat into their shells when disturbed or when conditions change.Neritina pulligera occurs naturally in tropical and subtropical coastal streams, rivers and estuarine habitats across the Indo-Pacific region.
