Black Saddle Guppy Care Guide

The Black Saddle Guppy is a fancy colour variety of the familiar guppy, Poecilia reticulata. Its defining feature is a dark, saddle-like marking over the rear half of the body, often contrasted with a bright metallic or boldly coloured tail. Selective breeding can produce considerable variation in the exact balance of black, silver, yellow, red and blue markings.Like other guppies, males are smaller and more ornate than females, with flowing fins and vivid colour patterns used in courtship displays. Females are larger and more robust, with a comparatively subdued appearance that helps distinguish them from the highly decorated males.The species originates in northern South America and nearby Caribbean islands, where wild guppies inhabit shallow streams, pools, ditches and other slow-moving freshwater environments.
