Diet
Omnivorous, with a preference for small live and frozen foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. High-quality flake foods and pellets suitable for cichlids can also be part of their diet, especially when supplemented with vegetable matter.
Community Compatibility
Suitable for a Tanganyikan community tank with other similarly sized and tempered species. Avoid housing with aggressive or much larger fish that could bully or harm the Blue Neon Cichlids. Their peaceful nature makes them a good match for other Tanganyikan cichlids that prefer the upper levels of the tank.
Good to Know
The Blue Neon Cichlid is prized for its beautiful, iridescent blue coloration, which can add a stunning visual effect to the aquarium. They are one of the few cichlid species known for their peaceful demeanor and schooling behavior, making them unique among the often more territorial African cichlids.
Gender Differences
Males are typically more colorful and may have longer fin extensions than females. During breeding times, males display more vibrant colors to attract females.
