Diet
Carnivorous; has a strong preference for live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. Can be acclimated to frozen foods, but may not readily accept flake or pellet foods.
Community Compatibility
Suitable for community tanks with other peaceful, small to medium-sized fish. Their semi-aggressive nature towards conspecifics should be considered when planning tank mates. Avoid large or very active fish that could stress the Chameleon Fish.
Good to Know
The Chameleon Fish gets its name from its ability to change color significantly, depending on its mood, surroundings, and health status, making it a fascinating species for aquarists to observe and care for.
Gender Differences
Males are larger and much more colorful than females, especially during breeding when they display vibrant colors to attract mates. Females are generally more subdued in color and smaller.
