About the Dumbo Ear Mosaic Guppy
The Dumbo Ear Mosaic Guppy is a selectively bred form of Poecilia reticulata, prized for its enlarged, fan-shaped pectoral fins and intricate mosaic markings. Males are typically smaller and more brilliantly coloured, often combining blue, red, orange or yellow with a patterned tail, while females are larger and more subdued.Like other guppies, this variety is active, alert and social, spending time throughout the water column. Males frequently display their fins and colours during courtship, creating lively movement in a group, while females tend to have a deeper body profile associated with livebearing.Wild guppies originate from northern South America and nearby Caribbean islands, where they inhabit shallow streams, ditches, ponds and slow-moving waterways. Their natural environments can vary considerably, and populations often show striking differences in colour and pattern from one region to another. The species has become one of the world’s most familiar aquarium fishes because of its remarkable variety, live-bearing reproduction and long history of selective breeding. The Dumbo Ear Mosaic form combines two conspicuous fancy traits, making it especially distinctive among ornamental guppies.
