The Electric Blue Acara is a selectively bred color form of Andinoacara pulcher, displaying an intense electric-blue body, shimmering turquoise scales, and darker blue edging on the fins. Its striking coloration is especially vivid when the fish is mature and in good condition.This acara is an active, intelligent cichlid with a generally confident but relatively moderate temperament. It may establish and defend a territory, particularly when spawning, yet it is usually less combative than many similarly sized Central and South American cichlids.In nature, Andinoacara pulcher inhabits freshwater streams, rivers, and quiet tributaries across northern South America, where sandy or muddy bottoms, submerged roots, leaf litter, and scattered vegetation provide shelter and feeding areas. Its natural range includes parts of Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad, and nearby regions.The species was formerly placed in the genus Aequidens, which explains the alternative name Aequidens pulcher still seen in aquarium literature.
