Diet
Primarily herbivorous, but also omnivorous. Gold Nugget Plecos feed on algae and biofilm that grow on driftwood and other surfaces in the aquarium. Provide them with sinking pellets or wafers specifically designed for plecos, along with occasional blanched vegetables like zucchini or cucumber.
Community Compatibility
Gold Nugget Plecos are generally peaceful but can be territorial towards other bottom-dwelling fish. They can be kept with other peaceful community fish that are not prone to fin-nipping, such as tetras, rasboras, and peaceful cichlids. Avoid keeping them with aggressive or large, aggressive species that may outcompete them for food or cause stress.
Gender Differences
Males typically develop more prominent bristles on their faces as they mature.
