About the Green Jade Shrimp
The Green Jade Shrimp is a striking colour morph of Neocaridina davidi, displaying shades that range from translucent jade and olive green to deeper forest green. Individual colour intensity can vary, and some shrimp show subtle darker markings or a contrasting back stripe.Small but constantly active, these shrimp spend much of their time grazing across surfaces and picking through plants, wood and substrate. They are peaceful animals with fascinating social behaviour, although they do not form coordinated schools in the way many fish do.Neocaridina davidi is native to freshwater habitats in East Asia, where related wild populations inhabit streams, ponds, ditches and slow-moving waters rich in vegetation and organic surfaces. Their tiny claws are adapted for collecting edible particles rather than hunting prey.The Green Jade variety was developed through selective breeding in the aquarium hobby from naturally variable Neocaridina davidi stock. Like other members of the species, it is valued for its manageable size, peaceful nature and ability to reproduce readily when conditions are suitable.
