Lemon Yellow Apistogramma Care Guide

The Lemon Yellow Apistogramma is a striking colour form of Apistogramma cacatuoides, recognised for its vivid yellow body and contrasting dark markings. Males typically display elongated dorsal and caudal fins, while females are smaller and can become especially bright yellow when guarding eggs or fry.This is a small but characterful dwarf cichlid with a confident presence. It spends much of its time close to the bottom, investigating the substrate, weaving through cover and displaying to rivals or potential mates. Although generally manageable in a community setting, it becomes territorial around a chosen spawning site.In nature, Apistogramma cacatuoides comes from the slow-moving tributaries, forest streams and floodplain waters of the western Amazon basin. These habitats are often shaded by overhanging vegetation and contain leaf litter, submerged roots and numerous small shelters.The species is one of the best-known Apistogramma in the aquarium hobby, in part because it adapts more readily than many of its relatives and has been selectively bred into several attractive colour varieties.
