Marigold Bristlenose Pleco Care Guide

The Marigold Bristlenose Pleco is a striking golden colour morph of Ancistrus cirrhosus, with a compact, armour-plated body and a broad sucker-shaped mouth. Its warm yellow to orange colouring can range from pale lemon to rich marigold, making it especially eye-catching against darker décor. Individual fish may also show subtle mottling or darker fin edges.Like other bristlenose plecos, it is best known for the fleshy tentacles that develop around the snout, particularly in mature males. These facial bristles give the fish its distinctive character and are used in displays between males, while females generally retain a much smoother appearance. The species spends much of its time attached to surfaces or moving deliberately over the bottom.Ancistrus cirrhosus originates in the freshwater systems of South America, where related populations inhabit rivers, streams and flooded forest environments. Its flattened body and sucker mouth reflect a life among submerged wood, rocks and vegetation, where it grazes surfaces and shelters in crevices.The Marigold form is produced through selective breeding rather than being a naturally occurring wild colour pattern.
