The Orange Shrimp is a vivid selectively bred colour form of Neocaridina davidi, displaying shades ranging from pale tangerine to rich pumpkin orange. Individuals may be translucent or strongly opaque, and their colour intensity can vary with genetics, age and condition.These small freshwater crustaceans are peaceful, busy and constantly inquisitive. They spend much of their time grazing across surfaces with delicate appendages, picking at algae, microorganisms and organic particles, while occasionally swimming through the water when startled or searching for new feeding areas.Neocaridina davidi naturally occurs in streams, ponds and slow-moving waters in East Asia, particularly Taiwan and adjacent parts of mainland Asia. Its natural environments are generally rich in submerged surfaces, leaf litter, aquatic vegetation and the microscopic life that forms a major part of its diet.The Orange Shrimp belongs to a remarkably variable species that has produced many aquarium colour strains, including red, yellow, blue and black forms. Females are typically larger and broader than males, and a healthy colony can produce small batches of miniature, fully formed young rather than free-swimming larvae.
