The Queen Arabesque Pleco is a striking small loricariid recognised by its intricate black-and-cream labyrinth of lines and spots. Its dramatic pattern gives it a highly ornamental appearance, while its compact body and broad, sucker-shaped mouth reveal its ancestry as a specialised armoured catfish.This fish is generally peaceful toward other species, although adults can become territorial around crevices and preferred resting places. It is most active in subdued light and often spends the day tucked beneath cover before exploring its surroundings more openly at dusk and during the night.The Queen Arabesque Pleco originates in the clear, fast-flowing tributaries of the Rio Tapajós basin in Brazil. Its natural environment is characterised by rocky substrates, submerged wood, strong currents and highly oxygenated water, with the fish using its flattened body and gripping mouth to hold position among stones.Known in the aquarium trade as Hypancistrus sp. L260, it remains associated with a trade-code identity rather than a universally accepted formal species name. Like other Hypancistrus, it is a cave-oriented catfish whose appearance, manageable adult size and unusual breeding behaviour have made it a favourite among specialist aquarists.
