Red White Platy Care Guide

The Red White Platy is a colourful cultivated form of Xiphophorus maculatus, combining a vivid red body or head with contrasting white areas. Patterns vary considerably between individuals, and selective breeding has produced many related colour forms with rounded fins and compact, high-backed bodies.This is a small, active livebearer with a generally peaceful disposition. Platies spend much of their time exploring all parts of the water column, grazing on surfaces and interacting with members of their own kind. Females are usually deeper-bodied than males, especially when carrying developing young.Wild Xiphophorus maculatus occur in slow-moving freshwater habitats including streams, ponds, canals and marginal waters in parts of Mexico and Central America.
