Spotted Rasboras Care Guide

The Spotted Rasbora is a tiny, jewel-like fish with a warm reddish-brown to copper body marked by dark rounded spots. Its translucent fins and subtle iridescence become especially attractive when the fish is active or displaying, while males often show stronger colour than females.This species is naturally social and spends much of its time moving through the middle levels in a loose shoal. It is peaceful and alert, with males sometimes performing brief lateral displays as they compete for attention and establish small social territories.Boraras maculatus comes from the peat-swamp streams, forest pools, and slow-moving blackwater habitats of Southeast Asia, particularly in the Malay Peninsula and nearby parts of Sumatra. These environments are typically shaded by dense vegetation, stained brown by tannins, and characterised by soft, acidic water.Despite its diminutive size, the Spotted Rasbora has become a popular nano-aquarium fish because of its lively social behaviour and delicate appearance. Its small scale and specialised natural habitat make it a fascinating representative of the miniature rasboras, a group that includes some of the smallest commonly kept cyprinid fishes.
