Diet
Herbivorous. They primarily feed on algae and plant matter, so a diet rich in vegetable-based foods is important. Offer them high-quality pellets, flakes, spirulina-based foods, and occasionally blanched vegetables like spinach or lettuce.
Community Compatibility
Only keep Tropheus Cichlids with other Tropheus species or other robust Lake Tanganyika cichlids. Avoid mixing them with other fish that may be outcompeted or harassed by their aggression.
Good to Know
Tropheus Cichlids are known for their aggression and territoriality, so it's important to provide ample hiding spots, caves, and rockwork to create separate territories and reduce aggression.
Gender Differences
Males tend to be larger and more colorful than females.
