Walteri Hap Care Guide

The Walteri Hap is a refined Lake Malawi cichlid with an elongated, streamlined body suited to life in open water. Mature males develop attractive blue tones, often accented by pale or yellowish markings in the fins, while females and juveniles are generally silvery, grey-brown or lightly patterned.Copadichromis virginalis is active and observant rather than relentlessly aggressive. Males become more territorial and display strongly when breeding, but the species is generally less boisterous than many rock-dwelling mbuna, spending much of its time cruising through the middle levels of the water column.In nature, this cichlid inhabits the clear, alkaline waters of Lake Malawi, particularly areas where sandy or open habitats meet rocky structure. It feeds largely by picking zooplankton and tiny organisms from the water, an ecological strategy reflected in its streamlined shape and forward-facing swimming style.Like other Copadichromis, the Walteri Hap is a maternal mouthbrooder. After spawning, the female carries the eggs and developing fry in her mouth, providing remarkable protection until the young are sufficiently developed to fend for themselves.
