The White Balloon Molly is a selectively bred colour and body-form variety of Poecilia sphenops, recognised for its pale white or pearly body and unusually short, rounded profile. Depending on its lineage, it may also show a modest dorsal fin and a broad, fan-shaped tail that contrast with the compact body.Like other mollies, it is an active livebearer with an inquisitive personality. It spends much of its time moving through the middle and upper parts of the aquarium, investigating its surroundings and grazing on surfaces, while males may display and pursue females as part of their social behaviour.Wild Poecilia sphenops originate in fresh and mildly brackish waters of Mexico and parts of Central America, including slow-moving streams, ponds, marshes and coastal habitats. Natural populations are typically associated with warm water, abundant vegetation and mineral-rich conditions.The species has a long history in the aquarium trade and has been selectively bred into numerous colour, fin and body shapes. The balloon form is especially distinctive, although its compressed body shape is a pronounced domestic trait rather than a feature usually seen in wild mollies.White Balloon Mollies are livebearers: females give birth to free-swimming young rather than laying eggs.
