White Helmet Nerite Snail Care Guide

The White Helmet Nerite Snail, Clithon corona, has a compact, rounded shell with a smooth or gently ridged surface. Its shell is commonly pale cream, ivory, or white, often marked with contrasting bands, spots, or irregular dark patterns that make each individual distinctive. Small horn-like projections may also occur around the shell margin, although their prominence varies.This species is a peaceful, slow-moving grazer that spends much of its time exploring hard surfaces. Its strong muscular foot allows it to cling firmly to rocks, glass, wood, and other submerged objects, while its rasping mouthparts are adapted for scraping algae and biofilm from those surfaces.Clithon corona is associated with tropical streams, rivers, estuaries, and coastal waterways across parts of the Indo-Pacific region. Like many nerite snails, it has a life cycle connected with both freshwater and more mineral-rich water, and its tiny larvae require conditions different from those used by the adults.The White Helmet Nerite is valued in aquaria for its attractive shell and useful algae-grazing behaviour.
