The White Molly is a striking aquarium colour form of the shortfin molly, with a solid white body that can range from silvery-white to an opaque, pearly shade. Its compact body, rounded fins and constantly grazing behaviour make it a familiar and attractive livebearer in home aquariums.Like other mollies, it is active, inquisitive and generally peaceful, although males may persistently court females. It spends time throughout the aquarium, investigating plants, décor and open water while regularly scraping algae and other growth from surfaces.Poecilia sphenops is naturally distributed across warm regions of Mexico, Central America and parts of northern South America. Wild populations inhabit slow-moving streams, ponds, marshes and coastal waters, and the species is notably tolerant of a range of water conditions, including mildly brackish environments.The White Molly is not a separate wild species but a domesticated strain produced through selective breeding. Mollies are livebearers: females retain fertilised eggs internally and release fully formed fry rather than laying eggs.With its bright colour, lively personality and easy breeding biology, the White Molly remains one of the most recognisable cultivated forms of the common molly in the ornamental fish trade.
